Today I was marking tests, and spent a lot of time groaning at my students poor preparation. (I gave them the answers ahead of time! They should have all got 100%!) I also spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to dredge more points out of what they'd done.
But it wasn't all bad. Some of what they wrote made me smile, too. My favourite line came from a student who could not remember the spelling of a word. He drew an arrow to the word, and wrote:
I cannot remember spell. How awfully my brain is!
I think I will be finding occasion to use that one myself.

I have noticed that I get a lot of hits from people searching "present simple" and "ESL," and assume that this is language teachers looking for ideas or lesson plans. The following links are good places to start.
ESL Lounge Here you will find lesson plans organised by level. A fantastically useful site for busy teachers, and easy to navigate.
British Council Here lesson plans are organized by topic. There are more teaching activities in the 'downloads' section.
The Internet TESL Journal
They have not updated this page for a while, but there is still a lot you might find useful.
Humanising Language Teaching
This is an online journal, good for ideas, inspiration, and especially good towards the end of semester when you're feeling not quite human.

Almost too much to wade through, but a very useful resource. Lots of links to other sources.
Karin's ESL PartyLand
This is a page specifically dealing with teaching simple present and present progressive. I have not tried any of these, but there are a lot of ideas here, and they look good. At the very least you will be inspired.

Good engrish! He must have a good sense of humor.
Perhaps he needs a brain hunt?
I know that feeling. The spelling-memory thing. Although, come to think of it, he why aren't these tests perfect thing too.
I love how this proves that even though sometimes cheating does help, in general, the ones who know nothing won't be helped even if they get the answers ahead of time. It makes me feel like cheaters don't prosper.
