Trackback tag

Hey, it worked! We did it! Lippy and I have pinged (and pinged) each other!

(All right, I'll stop now.)

Er, um... I'll have to dredge my memory to figure out how I set it up...

First you need to go to Haloscan to sign up. There you can get commenting and trackback services. I only use trackback from them, and I forget how I managed to get only one. (But I can send you my code if you want, and you can copy the method if you want.)

What happens is that if you mention someone's blog entry, you then go to their blog and find out the trackback code for that particular entry. Then you go to your Haloscan account and there's a form there that makes it very easy to 'ping' them. You enter a little teaser of what you wrote, and when the ping is sent, that's what appears on their trackback, along with a link to your blog entry mentioning them. People reading their blog entry can then check the trackbacks and see who else has written about that entry on their blog, and read it if they want to.

All clear now? (I suspect not, but I'm about to have a shower and can't be bothered editing...)

I actually had to go through and delete the trackback option from each of my posts because the spambots had moved from comment spam to trackback spam. I'd love to have an Internet bazooka to blast these people.

Oh, I am *so* not bothering with all that! But good on Lippy and you for figuring it out.
