I've been reading a lightweight mystery passed on to me by a friend, and came across this sentence:
Her breath came in ragged pants.
There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with that sentence. Only a silly person would laugh.

I am a silly person

I am a silly person too.
(Anyhow, there IS something wrong with it, unless we suppose that the writer of the lightweight mystery was entertaing him/herself. Now you will have to look out for more covert double entrendres).
T.S. Eliot's Kubla Khan has the line:
As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing
or maybe thick fast pants, I'll have to google it now, but anyway, when I was forced to learn this poem as a kid (Dad gave each of us a classic poem to learn when we moved to Spain, I guess he was worried about our English) (and I guess this sentence is increasingly proving why), I visualised a round earth bound up in tight nappies, kind of breathing in and out fast ... so I'm silly too! But you already knew that!
well I was right on the fast thick pants, but of course it's Coleridge, not Eliot, and I knew that!
I am silly too, then. That is crazy syntax.
Pants are well and good, but I prefer diamonds
He's a magician! lol.
