Seen in an electronics store

I think I have been here too long. I knew instantly what they meant, and was not at all surprised to see the black and white keyboard.

It does sum up all that's wrong with language education in Japan: mono-tonal = monotonous! (it must do, mustn't it...)

The real monotony in Japan is the 15 year long recession - which has reduced a rather vibrant, exciting place to a grey pessimistic one... it's sad..

Sort of like how I don't react to "grape soda" in Norway being pale yellow and containing no grapes. It contains grapefruit.
